Ask Colleen Column: Our Rice Rusks & Solid Food for Babies

For all of 2018, our registered dietitian Colleen will be answering your health and wellness questions. New questions and answers every month!

Q: How much food should my baby be eating once she starts eating solids?

A:  During the first year of life, babies should be getting all the nutrients they need from breast milk or infant formula. Starting on solid foods during your baby’s first year serves more of an introduction to foods, while helping your baby practice those fine motor skills like picking up small pieces of food and bringing them to her mouth. At her 1 year check-up, your pediatrician will discuss your baby’s nutrient needs, and as always, discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor.

Q: I’ve noticed the boxes of Baby Mum-Mum state ‘no sesame’. My child is allergic to sesame seeds. I don’t see this claim on the Toddler Mum-Mum box, are those also free of sesame?

A: Yes, just like Baby Mum-Mum, Toddler Mum-Mum is free from sesame seeds, as well as some other common allergens.
